A Journey Through Ancient Civilizations, Rich History & Incredible Cuisine

JAn 12-19, 2027

Prepare for an unforgettable journey through two of Southeast Asia's most captivating destinations, where ancient civilizations, vibrant cultures, breathtaking landscapes, and incredible cuisine come together to create an extraordinary adventure.

Designed with private guides and thoughtfully curated experiences throughout, this itinerary blends world-famous landmarks with authentic local encounters that few travelers experience on their own.

Your journey through Cambodia begins where ancient stone meets endless sky. At Angkor Wat, sunrise spills golden light across the world's largest religious monument, its towers reflected in still pools while monks in saffron robes drift past crumbling walls wrapped in jungle roots. You'll wander through moving reminders of the country's past, share warm smiles with locals who greet strangers like old friends, and taste dishes that balance sweet, sour, and spice in every bite.

Cambodia doesn't just show you its history; it invites you to feel it.

Then, cross into Vietnam and let Ho Chi Minh City pull you into its electric pulse. This is a metropolis that never sits still — motorbikes weave through wide boulevards, neon signs blaze above street-side kitchens, and the scent of sizzling bánh mì drifts through the humid air. . Dive into the Cu Chi Tunnels and feel the weight of history beneath your feet, then rise above it all at a rooftop bar as the city sprawls to the horizon in a blaze of lights. By day, the Ben Thanh Market buzzes with vendors selling everything from fresh herbs to handwoven silks; by night, the streets transform into an open-air feast of steaming pho, crispy spring rolls, and bold Vietnamese coffee.

Ho Chi Minh City doesn't ease you in — it grabs you, dazzles you, and leaves you wanting more.

January 13: The Sunrise at Angkor

4:40am - 12pm: Private Full-Day Historical Tour

• Sunrise behind Angkor Wat
• Ta Prohm Temple
• Angkor Thom city
• Bayon Temple

Rise well before dawn for one of Southeast Asia's most unforgettable experiences—watching the sun rise behind the iconic towers of Angkor Wat. As the first light reflects across the temple's lotus ponds, your private guide will introduce you to the history of the Khmer Empire and the extraordinary engineering that created the world's largest religious monument nearly 900 years ago. After sunrise, enjoy breakfast at a local restaurant before continuing your journey through Cambodia's ancient capital.

Next, visit the enchanting Ta Prohm, often called the "Jungle Temple," where towering silk-cotton trees and massive roots have become intertwined with centuries-old stone walls. Continue into the ancient city of Angkor Thom, once the royal capital of the Khmer Empire, where you'll explore the magnificent Bayon Temple, famous for its serene stone faces that seem to watch visitors from every direction. Together, these remarkable sites offer an unforgettable introduction to one of history's greatest civilizations.

January 14: Hidden Treasures of Angkor

8:30am - 4:30pm: Private Full-Day Temple Tour

• Banteay Srei Temple
• East Mebon
• Ta Som gate
• Preah Khan Temple

Today you'll venture beyond Angkor's most famous landmarks to discover some of the Khmer Empire's finest artistic achievements. Your first stop is the exquisite Banteay Srei, often referred to as the "Citadel of Women." Built from beautiful pink sandstone, this smaller temple is celebrated for having some of the most intricate and best-preserved carvings found anywhere in Cambodia, showcasing an incredible level of craftsmanship that has survived for centuries.

Continue along Angkor's scenic "Big Circuit" to explore several lesser-visited yet equally fascinating temples. Visit East Mebon, once surrounded by an enormous reservoir, followed by peaceful Ta Som, known for its dramatic tree-covered eastern gate. End the day at the sprawling monastery of Preah Khan, a magnificent temple complex that blends towering corridors, crumbling stonework, and jungle vegetation into one of Angkor's most captivating archaeological sites.

January 15:
Cambodia's Living Heritage & Flight to Vietnam

8:30am - 4:30pm: Private Cultural Tour

6:40pm - 7:55pm: Evening flight to Vietnam

• Visit Tonlé Sap Lake Stilt-house communities
• Visit Roluos Temples
• Tour ends at Siem Reap Airport
• Private airport arrival transfer (in Vietnam)
• Check in to hotel

Suggested Self-Arranged flights:

Siem Reap to Ho Chi Minh (Saigon) SGN
Vietnam Airways (VN 812)

Siem Reap International Airport (SAI) → Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN)
Depart 6:40 PM | Arrive 7:55 PM

Today shifts the focus from Cambodia's ancient monuments to its living culture and history.

Begin with a visit to one of the stilt-house communities on Tonlé Sap Lake, Southeast Asia's largest freshwater lake. Depending on the season and water levels, you'll explore villages built high above the floodplain while learning how generations of families have adapted to life on this extraordinary body of water through fishing, farming, and traditional craftsmanship.

Later, travel to Roluos, the original capital of the Khmer Empire dating back to the 9th century. Often overlooked by visitors rushing to Angkor, these early temples reveal the beginnings of Khmer architecture and the foundation upon which the later masterpieces of Angkor were built.

Following today's exploration of Cambodia, we recommend flying to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam this evening rather than waiting until the following morning. An evening departure allows you to enjoy your final day in Cambodia without feeling rushed while also giving you a full day to begin exploring Vietnam upon arrival.

Although Air Cambodia offers more daily flight options between Siem Reap and Ho Chi Minh City, we recommend flying with Vietnam Airlines whenever possible. Vietnam's national carrier has a long-established reputation, an excellent safety record, and operates under stronger international regulatory oversight than Air Cambodia. The evening Vietnam Airlines departures provide a comfortable and convenient transition between the two countries, allowing you to arrive in Ho Chi Minh City, transfer to your hotel, and wake up refreshed and ready to begin your Vietnamese adventure the following morning.

As you explore the preserved sections of the tunnels, your private guide will explain the ingenuity and resilience required to survive underground during wartime.
You'll see concealed entrances, ingenious booby traps, hidden trapdoors, and, for those interested, have the opportunity to experience walking through portions of the narrow tunnel system.

Return to Ho Chi Minh City in the afternoon with the remainder of the day free to relax or continue exploring on your own.

January 18: The Mekong Delta

8am - 4pm: Private Full-Day Excursion

• Cruise the Floating Villages on the Mekong River
• Tuk Tuk rides
• Coconut Candle workshop
• Sampan ride on the Mekong Delta

Today you'll leave the bustling city behind for the peaceful waterways of the Mekong Delta, one of Southeast Asia's most fertile and culturally rich regions. Board a boat for a scenic cruise along the Mekong River, where life revolves around the water much as it has for generations. As you travel through the delta, you'll witness floating communities, lush vegetation, and the slower pace of rural Vietnam.

Throughout the day, enjoy leisurely walks through fruit orchards and traditional villages before riding a local tuk tuk through quiet country roads.

Visit a family-run workshop to learn how traditional coconut candies are made, sample fresh tropical fruits harvested nearby, and finish the day with a peaceful sampan ride through narrow canals shaded by towering coconut palms. It's a wonderful opportunity to experience the warm hospitality and timeless traditions of southern Vietnam.

Southeast Asia Travel FAQs

Helpful Information for Your Journey Through Cambodia & Vietnam

What currency is used?

Cambodia 🇰🇭

Cambodia's official currency is the Cambodian Riel (KHR), but U.S. Dollars (USD) are accepted almost everywhere. Most hotels, restaurants, and tour operators quote prices in U.S. dollars, and you'll often receive Cambodian Riel as change for smaller purchases.

Bring clean, newer U.S. bills, as torn, heavily creased, or marked bills are often refused.

Vietnam 🇻🇳

Vietnam uses the Vietnamese Dong (VND). Although a few hotels may accept U.S. dollars, nearly all restaurants, shops, markets, and attractions use Vietnamese Dong.

ATMs are plentiful throughout Ho Chi Minh City and are usually the easiest way to obtain local currency.

Can I use credit cards?

Cambodia

Major hotels, upscale restaurants, and larger shops generally accept Visa and Mastercard. Smaller restaurants, markets, and street vendors usually accept cash only.

Vietnam

Credit cards are widely accepted at hotels, shopping centers, and many restaurants. However, street food vendors, local cafés, and neighborhood shops generally operate on a cash basis.

Should I exchange money before I arrive?

Cambodia

No. ATMs in Siem Reap commonly dispense U.S. dollars, and Cambodian Riel is usually received as change.

Vietnam

Not necessarily. Most travelers simply withdraw Vietnamese Dong from an ATM after arriving.

Is it safe to drink the tap water?

Both Cambodia & Vietnam

No.

Drink only bottled or filtered water throughout your trip. Ice served at reputable hotels, restaurants, and cafés is generally made from purified water and is considered safe.

What will the weather be like in January?

Cambodia (Siem Reap)

January is one of the best months to visit.

  • Morning: 68–73°F (20–23°C)

  • Afternoon: 82–88°F (28–31°C)

  • Low humidity and very little rain

Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City)

January is also an excellent time to visit southern Vietnam.

  • Morning: 72–77°F (22–25°C)

  • Afternoon: 85–91°F (29–33°C)

Expect moderate amounts of walking every day.

Cambodia

You'll walk on uneven stone pathways, ancient staircases, temple courtyards, and dirt trails while exploring Angkor.

Vietnam

Walking includes city sidewalks, markets, museums, villages, and the Mekong Delta. At the Cu Chi Tunnels, walking through the tunnels is optional.

Comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended.

Should I bring insect repellent?

Yes.

Mosquitoes are present in both Cambodia and Vietnam, particularly:

  • Early morning

  • Around sunset

  • Near rivers, lakes, and rural areas

A quality insect repellent is highly recommended.

Can I flush toilet paper?

Hotels

Yes, generally.

Smaller restaurants and public restrooms

In both Cambodia and Vietnam, you may occasionally see a wastebasket beside the toilet. If so, place toilet paper in the basket rather than flushing it.

Always follow posted signs.

Should I carry tissues or toilet paper?

Yes.

Public restrooms don't always provide toilet paper or paper towels.

A small packet of tissues and hand sanitizer are among the most useful things you can carry each day.

Is tipping expected?

Suggested amounts:

  • Tour Guide: $10–20 USD per person per day

  • Driver: $5–10 USD per person per day

The best advice is simple:

  • Eat where locals are eating.

  • Choose vendors preparing food fresh in front of you.

  • Trust your local guide's recommendations.

Temple Etiquette: What Should I Know Before Visiting?

Both Cambodia and Vietnam are deeply rooted in Buddhist traditions.

Please remember to:

  • Cover your shoulders and knees.

  • Remove hats inside temples.

  • Speak quietly.

  • Remove shoes if requested.

  • Women should avoid handing items directly to monks.

  • Ask before taking close-up photos of monks or worshippers.

Respectful behavior is always appreciated.

Can I have custom clothing made while I'm in Vietnam?

Absolutely! Ho Chi Minh City is one of Southeast Asia's premier destinations for custom tailoring, making it a wonderful opportunity to bring home something truly unique from your trip. Whether you're interested in a custom suit, sport coat, dress, blouse, or dress shirt, many of the city's experienced tailors can create beautifully fitted garments at a fraction of what you might expect to pay in the United States or Europe.

Typical pricing is very reasonable:

  • Custom dress shirt: approximately $30–75 USD

  • Custom dress or blouse: approximately $60–150 USD

  • Custom sport coat: approximately $175–350 USD

  • Custom two-piece suit: approximately $250–700+ USD, depending on the fabric, construction, and level of customization.

For the best experience, we recommend scheduling your fitting early in your stay, ideally on your first full day in Ho Chi Minh City. This allows time for measurements, at least one fitting, and any final adjustments before your departure. Many tailors can complete custom shirts and dresses in 24–48 hours, while a custom suit typically requires 2–4 days, making it an excellent addition to your itinerary.

Some of Ho Chi Minh City's most highly regarded tailoring shops include:

  • Elegant Silk Tailoring – One of the city's most popular choices for custom suits, dresses, and shirts, known for outstanding craftsmanship and customer service.

  • DUAN Tailor – Specializes in premium custom menswear and women's garments with an excellent reputation among international travelers.

  • Kim Bespoke – A modern tailor offering a wide selection of fabrics and beautifully tailored bespoke suits.

  • Viet Thanh Silk / Emperor Bespoke Suits – Well known for premium fabrics, traditional craftsmanship, and elegant custom clothing.

  • Nhut Tailor – A long-established favorite offering high-quality custom garments for visitors from around the world.

If this experience interests you, we'd be happy to recommend the tailor that best fits your style and budget and adjust your schedule to include a fitting and final pickup before your flight home. Rather than bringing home another souvenir, you'll return with a beautifully crafted custom garment that fits perfectly and serves as a lasting reminder of your time in Vietnam.

Should I ride elephants or visit attractions where elephants (or other animals) perform tricks or paint pictures?

No—we strongly recommend avoiding these types of attractions.

Whether in Cambodia, Vietnam, or elsewhere in Southeast Asia, elephant rides, painting demonstrations, circus-style performances, and similar attractions often involve training methods based on fear, physical punishment, prolonged restraint, or other practices that compromise the animals' welfare. These behaviors are not natural, and many facilities do not provide the proper care, enrichment, or veterinary support these animals require.

Beyond the ethical concerns, there are also important safety considerations. Animals that are stressed, injured, or improperly cared for can behave unpredictably, creating unnecessary risks for visitors.

If spending time with elephants is on your bucket list, we highly recommend Elephant Nature Park in northern Thailand. Rather than riding or watching performances, visitors observe rescued elephants behaving naturally—walking freely, socializing with other elephants, bathing in the river, and foraging as they would in the wild. It is internationally recognized as one of Asia's leading elephant rescue and rehabilitation organizations and offers a truly meaningful conservation experience.

If this is something you'd like to include in a future trip—or if you'd like to adjust your itinerary while you're in the region—we'd be delighted to help arrange it.

What surprises visitors the most?

Cambodia

Most visitors are amazed by the sheer scale of Angkor Archaeological Park. Covering more than 150 square miles (400 square kilometers), it is one of the largest archaeological sites on Earth. Beyond the temples themselves, many travelers leave most impressed by the warmth, resilience, and kindness of the Cambodian people.

Vietnam

Ho Chi Minh City is an exhilarating blend of old and new, where bustling motorbikes, colonial architecture, hidden cafés, and gleaming skyscrapers all coexist. Yet just a short drive away, the peaceful Mekong Delta offers a completely different pace of life. As in Cambodia, it's often the genuine hospitality of the Vietnamese people that leaves the most lasting impression.

Can I pay by Zelle?

Yes!

We found this to be a fastest, easiest, and FREE way to pay!
For those who don’t know what Zelle is… it is very much like a wire transfer (but it is not a wire transfer).

Everyone’s bank is different, though, so you may want to call/go into your local bank and ask to have the maximum amount available to transfer every day.

Example: Some banks only allow $500/day transfer. Other banks will allow $1200/day.

Always be careful when making payments through Zelle to people that you do not know. There is no protection guarantee provided and you cannot reverse the fee.

The Pros for using Zelle:

  • It is FREE (no processing fees)!

  • It is instantaneous (funds will go directly to Zone Travel- so this is the absolute fastest way to make a payment)

The Cons for using Zelle:

  • Every bank is different when it comes to maximum amount available to be transferred every day. So, this may mean that you need to make multiple payments to Zone Travel, multiple days in a row.

  • It does require an app download onto your phone, and you need to set up your account with your bank information.

Can I pay by check?

Yes!

If you would like to avoid the 4%processing fees, you may pay by check.
It is very important that you pay in advance of the deadlines and allow ample time for delivery.

Payments received after the deadline could result in cancelation of your reservation or increased fees.

There are two ways to pay by check:

  • Mail the check

  • Deposit directly at a local branch
