October 8: Sunrise at Haleakalā
3am- Sunrise at Haleakalā
(depart hotel at 2:30am)
NOTE: The sun is expected to rise at 6:18am on October 8, 2024.
You will want to be there about an hour before that to see the colors as it rises (around 5am- if not before (there will be crowds… so get there earlier to get a good viewing spot))
It is about a 2hr drive from the resort to the Haleakalā Visitor Center.
Plan on leaving your resort by 2:30am-3am
Also note: Bring Warm Clothes
This is Hawaiʻi but it gets very cold at the summit. The temperature drops 3º for every 1000 feet of elevation, so at the Haleakalā Visitor Center’s 9,740-foot elevation (where most people watch the sunrise), it’s about 30º colder than at sea level. Be sure to bring pants, shoes, layers of clothing, and blankets. Temperatures are often in the 40-degree range.
The day begins in the early morning hours as you prepare for your self-led trip to Haleakalā to witness one of nature’s most breathtaking displays: the sunrise over the volcanic summit.
With a coffee in hand and excitement in your hearts, you’ll embark on the journey, navigating the winding roads that climb higher through lush jungles and rolling hills. As the sun edges closer to the horizon, the landscape transforms, providing stunning vistas of the valleys below.
Upon arriving at the summit, find a prime viewing spot, bundled against the cool mountain air. As you wait in anticipation, the darkness gives way to a brilliant palette of oranges, pinks, and purples. The sun bursts forth above the clouds, illuminating the crater and casting a golden light over the volcanic landscape, creating a serene and ethereal atmosphere. This magical moment is often accompanied by a hush among onlookers, as everyone is captivated by the raw beauty of the world awakening beneath them.
After soaking in the awe-inspiring views, we recommend descending from the summit to enjoy a hearty breakfast at a local café, sharing stories about your experience.
The rest of the day unfolds with exploration—visiting nearby waterfalls, hiking scenic trails, or simply relaxing on the beach—allowing you to embrace the enchanting spirit of Maui while reflecting on the unforgettable start to your day.
NOTE: This is weather dependent. Parking reservations need to be made in advance. If you prefer a different day, a limited number of last minute tickets will become available 24hrs prior.
Sunset
Not an early riser? Take a leisurely drive up the summit and give yourself some time to explore before the sun goes down. Sunset at Haleakalā, with its flaming clouds, is as breathtaking as its morning counterpart although a little less known. And just as with the sunrise, bring a snack, drinks and hang out for a while as the quiet of dusk transforms into a starry night.

Today is a self-lead day of exploration on the Road to Hana.
Driving the Road to Hana is an adventure filled with stunning vistas and unexpected discoveries. As dawn breaks, you’ll set out from your hotel, eager to explore one of Hawaii's most iconic coastal drives.
The journey begins as the narrow, winding road meanders through lush rainforests, with the sound of cascading waterfalls enticing you to stop and explore. Each twist and turn reveals spectacular panoramas of the Pacific Ocean, dotted with hidden beaches and verdant cliffs.
Along the way, hikers can pause to explore the famous Twin Falls, or take a refreshing dip in the turquoise waters at one of the numerous natural pools. As you continue further along the route, you’ll encounter quaint roadside stands offering fresh coconut, banana bread, and local crafts, adding a touch of charm to this picturesque journey.
The final destination of Hana offers its own beauty with black sand beaches, stunning sea views, and lush botanical gardens, providing a perfect backdrop for relaxation and reflection. The day culminates as the sun sets, painting the sky in vibrant hues, leaving you with cherished memories of a truly remarkable Hawaiian experience.
NOTE: It is important to note the cultural significance and legal implications surrounding the collection of sand from Hawaii's beaches. According to Hawaiian folklore, taking sand or any natural resource from the islands is believed to carry negative consequences, disrupting the spiritual balance and connection between the land and its people. Additionally, it is illegal to remove sand, rocks, or other natural elements from state parks or beaches in Hawaii, as these materials play a vital role in the ecosystem. Visitors are encouraged to respect the land and its traditions by enjoying the beauty of Hawaii without taking souvenirs that could harm its natural heritage.

October 14:
Horseback Riding
A free day on the Big Island opens up a world of possibilities, allowing visitors to tailor their adventures to their interests.
For those seeking an exhilarating experience, consider a helicopter tour that provides a bird's-eye view of the island's stunning landscapes, including lava fields, waterfalls, and lush rainforests.
Alternatively, horseback riding through the scenic landscapes offers a taste of Hawaii's paniolo (cowboy) culture while enjoying breathtaking views of the coastline and volcanic mountains.
Hawaiʻi has its own brand of cowboys, or Paniolo’s, and a rich history in horseback riding. When the Spanish vaqueros (“cowboys”) arrived on the island in the early 19th century they brought the traditional euro-latin culture of riding and roping skills. The king of Hawaii hired these vaqueros to teach Hawaiians herding and ranching skills in order to control the many cows that were given to the Hawaiian royalty as a gift, but now were roaming the island almost uncontrolled.
As the Hawaiian culture and Latin vaquero cultures mingled, a unique breed of cowboy emerged: the Paniolo.
Another unique option is visiting a seahorse farm, where guests can learn about the fascinating life cycle of these delicate creatures and the conservation efforts being undertaken to protect their habitats.
These activities, along with options like exploring volcanic parks or lounging at serene beaches, enhance your Hawaiian getaway, ensuring every moment is filled with discovery and enjoyment.

October 19:
Free day
Today is a free day, but we suggest taking the day to hike some of the most awe-inspiring trails in the USA.
Spending a day hiking in Oahu offers an exhilarating way to experience the island's breathtaking natural beauty. Start your adventure early in the morning at the base of Diamond Head, one of Oahu’s most iconic hikes. As you ascend the crater, you’ll be rewarded with stunning panoramic views of Waikiki and the turquoise ocean. The trail, though steep in parts, is well-maintained, making it accessible for most fitness levels.
After conquering Diamond Head, consider heading to Manoa Falls. This enchanting hike takes you through a lush rainforest, leading to a stunning waterfall cascading down a rocky cliff. The trail's vibrant foliage and diverse plant life provide an immersive experience in Hawaii's unique ecosystems. Be sure to pack a picnic to enjoy at the waterfall’s base, allowing you to soak in the tranquil atmosphere.
If you're up for a challenge, embark on the Muana Kea Trail on the North Shore. The mix of rugged terrain and picturesque views of both the ocean and the mountains will leave you in awe. The trail offers several lookout points, perfect for snapping memorable photographs.
As the day winds down, head back to Lanikai Beach to unwind, where the soft sand and gentle waves serve as the perfect reward for your hiking endeavors. Enjoy the stunning sunset, reflecting on a day filled with exploration and the stunning natural wonders that Oahu has to offer.

F.A.Q.
Do I need to use Reef-safe sunscreen in Hawaii?
Yes!
Using reef-safe sunscreen in Hawaii is not only recommended but essential for protecting the islands' delicate marine ecosystems. Conventional sunscreens often contain chemicals like oxybenzone and octinoxate, which have been shown to contribute to coral bleaching and harm marine life.
As a result, Hawaii has implemented laws that prohibit the sale of sunscreens containing these harmful ingredients. Opting for reef-safe sunscreen made from natural mineral compounds like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide allows you to enjoy the sun while also preserving the vibrant underwater habitats that make Hawaii so special. By choosing eco-friendly sunscreen, you're helping to ensure that Hawaii's stunning coral reefs and diverse marine species remain protected for future generations.
WHAT TIME IS THE CHECK IN TO THE HOTEL?
Check in at your hotel will not be until 3pm at the earliest.

IS BREAKFAST INCLUDED at each accommodation?
Sometimes.
The serving times vary by hotel (they will tell you at check-in), but usually breakfast is served starting at 6:30am.

Whatever is most comfortable, but most women wear sundresses, and most men wear shorts and an aloha shirt. Please wear sturdy shoes, no high heels or you’ll get stuck in the grass!
What is the seating like?
Sit one of two ways—at a dining table on chairs, or seated in first-row around the stage, where you’ll sit cross-legged on cushions and dine from a low-set table. Each table fits up to eight (8) lūʻau guests and each party is assigned their own table.
Where do I park?
Come 15-30 minutes early to park right by the entrance or the friendly attendants will send you to additional free parking across the street by the best lūʻau in Maui.

WHO SHOULD GO ON THE MANTA RAY SNORKEL
The Manta Ray Night Snorkel is open to anyone with a spirit of adventure, who can swim, and is comfortable in the ocean. Adults and children (ages 5+) are welcome. All guests should be able to swim 50 yards without assistance and consider themselves intermediate to advanced snorkelers. Non-swimmers are not permitted on this charter for their safety, the crew’s safety, and courtesy to other guests onboard. (Children (under 18) must be at least five years of age, demonstrate strong swimming ability, and be accompanied by an adult at all times.)
Will I DEFinitely see mantas on the night manta snorkel?
Please note that the Manta Rays are wild animals and their presence is not guaranteed. If you do not see a manta on your night out, you can go again on another night on a space-available standby basis. Keep in mind that standby spaces may be extremely limited, especially during the busiest times of the year. This offer never expires, but is non-transferable and has no refund or cash value. They are typically very successful in finding mantas for you; however, if they are not around, the costs involved with setting up the charter and getting all the guests to the location will not allow the vendor to offer you a refund.
WHY YOU SHOULD GO ON THE MANTA RAY SWIM
If you’re looking for things to do in Kona at night the manta ray snorkel is easily the top attraction. Every night hundreds of people get in the water with these majestic creatures. One of the most amazing parts about viewing manta rays in their natural habitat is just how large they can be compared to us. The largest rays are many times larger than even the biggest person. Combine the manta ray’s size with their grace and it makes for one impressive show!
Kona can be relatively sleepy at night with many restaurants closing early and a lack of general nightlife options. That’s okay because there are still so many great things to see at night in the ocean! The manta ray snorkel is one of those few things you can do at night that is unlike anything else. Forget the bar, the action is in the ocean!
Manta rays are found in many parts of the tropics and even on the other Hawaiian Islands. But unlike in Kona, they can be difficult to spot. We are so fortunate in Kona to have a coast that drops off quickly and brings deep nutrient-rich water to the shore. The water feeds plankton which the manta rays love. This means if you want to swim with manta rays this is your chance! The manta ray snorkel is so convenient and accessible it’s one of the few large animal encounters with a consistent chance to see large wild animals up close and personal. It’s also safe for the rays and safe for the participants! So don’t miss out on this opportunity to see one of the oceans largest rays.
Other animals you may see when going on a manta ray snorkel are monk seals, dolphins, and loads of fish! Floating on the surface makes it easy to view the show down below. The rays look like they are performing but really they are just eating all of the yummy plankton down below. The plankton are attracted to the lights we use to light up the ocean. There’s often so much light in the water it almost doesn’t feel like night anymore. It’s like an underwater club show. The only thing lacking is the dance music.
Can I pay by Zelle?
Yes!
We started taking Zelle payments last month and we found this to be a fast and FREE way to pay!
For those who don’t know what Zelle is… it is very much like a wire transfer (but it is not a wire transfer).
Everyone’s bank is different, though, so you may want to call/go in to your local bank and ask to have the maximum amount available to transfer every day.
Example: Some banks only allow $500/day transfer. Other banks will allow $1200/day.
Always be careful when making payments through Zelle to people that you do not know. There is no protection guarantee provided and you cannot reverse the fee.
The Pros for using Zelle:
It is FREE (no processing fees)!
It is instantaneous (funds will go directly to Zone Travel- so this is the absolute fastest way to make a payment)
The Cons for using Zelle:
Every bank is different when it comes to maximum amount available to be transferred every day. So, this may mean that you need to make multiple payments to Zone Travel, multiple days in a row.
It does require an app download onto your phone, and you need to set up your account with your bank information.
Can I pay by check?
Yes!
If you would like to avoid the 4% credit card processing fees, you may pay by check.
It is very important that you pay in advance of the deadlines and allow ample time for delivery.
Payments received after the deadline could result in cancelation of your reservation or increased fees.
There are two ways to pay by check:
Mail the check
Deposit directly at a local branch
