Bergen: Add-On Experiences

Fjord to Table: The Meteorological Menu

Time: 6pm

Duration: 3-5hrs

Price: $175/pp

The Meteorological Menu at Cornelius Restaurant is a one-of-a-kind dining experience that perfectly captures the essence of Bergen’s coastal charm. Located on a small island just a short boat ride from the city, Cornelius offers a seasonal, weather-inspired menu that changes daily, reflecting the moods of the sea and sky. In the winter months, this means indulging in the freshest seafood—think oysters, mussels, and fish—prepared with innovative techniques and paired with local ingredients to create dishes as dynamic as the surrounding fjords.

Dining at Cornelius in winter is more than just a meal; it’s an adventure. The journey begins with a scenic boat ride across the fjord, where you’ll take in the snow-dusted mountains and crisp winter air. Once at the restaurant, you’ll enjoy a cozy, candlelit atmosphere with panoramic views of the water. The 5-course Meteorological Menu is a celebration of Norway’s culinary heritage and the ever-changing elements, making it a must-include for anyone seeking an authentic, unforgettable taste of Bergen.

Note: there are some worthy additions that can be added to this dinner including the Seafood Bar (with presentation and lecture) and the Wine Pairings.
If you choose to include this in your package then we can go over the extras if you’d like to know more.

F.A.Q.

WHAT TIME IS THE CHECK IN TO THE HOTEL?

Check in at your hotel will not be until 3pm at the earliest.

  • If you arrive early, or your room is not yet ready for you to check in when you arrive, you may be able to leave your bags with the front desk and they will keep them securely held behind the desk while you go out and eat or explore the city until your room is ready.

IS BREAKFAST INCLUDED?

Yes.

The serving times vary by hotel (they will tell you at check-in), but usually breakfast is served starting at 6:30am.

where will I go through customs?

You will go through customs in the first Schengen country that you enter.

When you return to the USA you'll go through customs wherever your first point of entry is into the USA.

Is it better to use cash or card in Norway?

Debit and credit cards are accepted almost everywhere, and many places also accept payment by phone, like Google Pay and Apple Pay. But it is still a good idea to have a bit of cash on you for small purchases. Foreign currency is rarely accepted, so you need Norwegian currency to get by.

Should I exchange money before I travel to Norway?

Having some Norwegian krone cash on hand can be helpful.

Credit unions and banks will exchange your dollars into a foreign currency before and after your trip when you have a checking or savings account with them. (Just remember that when you return home, the banks will not accept any coins… only paper bills.)

You will need to order Norwegian Kroner from your bank at least 2-3 weeks prior to your departure.

If you need cash while you’re traveling, we recommend drawing some from an ATM once you've arrived in the foreign country.
Keep in mind, unless you’re using a prepaid multi-currency card like Revolut or a credit card with no foreign transaction fees, you could incur currency exchange fees.

What is the tipping etiquette in Scandinavia?

In Scandinavia, tipping etiquette is modest compared to many other regions.

Norway:
In Norway, service charge is typically included in the bill, thus tipping is not expected but appreciated for exceptional service – usually rounding up the bill suffices.

Overall, while tipping isn't obligatory, it's appreciated as a token of satisfaction with the service provided.

Can I pay by Zelle?

Yes!

We started taking Zelle payments last month and we found this to be a fast and FREE way to pay!
For those who don’t know what Zelle is… it is very much like a wire transfer (but it is not a wire transfer).

Everyone’s bank is different, though, so you may want to call/go in to your local bank and ask to have the maximum amount available to transfer every day.

Example: Some banks only allow $500/day transfer. Other banks will allow $1200/day.

Always be careful when making payments through Zelle to people that you do not know. There is no protection guarantee provided and you cannot reverse the fee.

The Pros for using Zelle:

  • It is FREE (no processing fees)!

  • It is instantaneous (funds will go directly to Zone Travel- so this is the absolute fastest way to make a payment)

The Cons for using Zelle:

  • Every bank is different when it comes to maximum amount available to be transferred every day. So, this may mean that you need to make multiple payments to Zone Travel, multiple days in a row.

  • It does require an app download onto your phone, and you need to set up your account with your bank information.

Can I pay by check?

Yes!

If you would like to avoid the 4% credit card processing fees, you may pay by check.
It is very important that you pay in advance of the deadlines and allow ample time for delivery.

Payments received after the deadline could result in cancelation of your reservation or increased fees.

There are two ways to pay by check:

  • Mail the check

  • Deposit directly at a local branch

Insurance costs are based on the total package cost, including air taxes and charges listed under "Included."

Approximate amounts can be given at time of reservation in order to purchase the appropriate amount of insurance.
