Starrs in HAWAII

Maui and Hawaii (Big Island)
February 11-21, 2027

Hawaii Is Calling—And You’ll Want to Answer

Some places make you forget what day it is—and Hawaii makes you glad you did.

Maui and the Big Island invite you to trade your everyday routine for ocean breezes, extraordinary scenery, and time to simply enjoy where you are. There’s a thrill in seeing these islands for yourself that no photo can quite capture. Hawaiian culture and the warmth of the people give the experience a richness that goes far beyond the views.

One moment, you’re completely awestruck; the next, you’re so relaxed you’re wondering why you didn’t come sooner. This is your chance to slow down, explore, and share those “can you believe we’re here?” moments. You’ll head home with favorite stories, a camera full of memories, and probably a few conversations about coming back.

Give yourself something incredible to look forward to—Hawaii is waiting.

You'll follow winding paths through tropical rainforest to discover cascading waterfalls tucked among ferns and wild ginger. Nearby Black Rock adds another memorable spot to explore, while guided excursions or a rental car let you venture farther into Maui’s varied landscapes. Sunrise Above the Clouds & an Afternoon in Paradise

Some mornings are worth getting up early for—and this is one you’ll be talking about long after you leave Maui.

Before dawn, your local guide picks you up for the climb into Haleakalā National Park, leaving you free to relax as the island sleeps below.

Anticipation builds as you arrive in the chilly mountain air and watch the first light appear on the horizon. As the sun rises, the volcanic landscape slowly emerges in shades of gold, rose, and amber, revealing a side of Maui that feels worlds away from the beach.
Your guide shares the stories and cultural significance of this sacred place, making the experience even more memorable.

Bring warm layers and wrap yourself in a provided hooded blanket so you can savor every moment.

After the descent, a delicious included sit-down breakfast at Café O’lei at the Plantation gives you time to linger over the morning’s highlights.

Choose fluffy macadamia nut pancakes with bacon and Portuguese sausage, a hearty Plantation Breakfast, or yogurt with stoneground muesli and fresh seasonal fruit. Locally roasted MauiʻOma coffee, passion orange guava juice, and toast with sweet butter and local preserves complete the meal.

Then return to the resort with an unforgettable experience already behind you and the rest of the day wonderfully open.
Trade your warm layers for swimwear, claim a poolside lounge chair, or wander down to Kāʻanapali Beach with nothing on the agenda but enjoying it.

From sunrise on Haleakalā to sunset beside the Pacific, this is a perfect start to your first day that makes being in Maui feel pretty extraordinary.

February 13:
Free Day

Today has no plans, no alarms, and nowhere you need to be.

Maui moves at its own easy rhythm, and this is your day to fall into step with it. Sleep in, linger over a slow breakfast, and let the warm trade winds decide where the morning takes you.

If you're craving a stretch of sand beyond your hotel, Kāʻanapali Beach is a dreamy choice on the island's west side.
Three miles of golden sand curve along clear blue water, perfect for a long, barefoot stroll or a lazy float when the waves roll in soft and gentle.

Farther south, Wailea Beach offers a quieter crescent of soft sand and calm, crystal-clear water that makes for easy swimming. Spread out a towel under a palm, let the sun warm your shoulders, and in winter, watch for humpback whales spouting far offshore.

Of course, you don't have to go anywhere at all. Some of the best moments come from staying put, claiming a lounge chair by the hotel pool, and letting the day drift by one page or one nap at a time.
Order a chilled mai tai or a fresh pineapple smoothie, slip into the cool water whenever the heat calls for it, then wander down to the hotel's own stretch of beach to dip your toes in the warm Pacific.

As the afternoon softens into golden light, find a comfy spot to watch the sky glow pink and amber over the ocean.

It's a day made for doing very little and savoring every minute of it, the true island way, wrapped in the easy warmth of aloha.

Aloha, Big Island: Your Next Chapter Begins

Enjoy one last breakfast on Maui before checking out of your hotel and heading to the airport for your nonstop flight to Kona, on the Big Island of Hawaiʻi.

You’re trading Maui’s familiar shores for an island with a personality all its own, where vast lava fields, towering volcanoes, and pockets of lush greenery reveal an entirely different side of Hawaiʻi. This is the youngest Hawaiian island, and its dramatic landscapes make it feel like a place still taking shape.

Suggested self-arranged flights:

Alaska Airlines (Flight AS 1030)
10:36 AM Kahului Airport (OGG)
11:15 AM Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport (KOA)

Upon arrival, collect your rental car and make your way to your hotel, watching the scenery unfold along the drive as you head directly to the Volcano House.

Here, you’ll spend one extraordinary night at the rim of Kīlauea’s summit caldera. Vast lava landscapes and lush forest introduce you to a very different side of Hawaiʻi as you make your way across the island.

Your Deluxe Crater View room with one king bed puts that remarkable setting at the heart of your stay, with a view that makes this much more than an overnight stop.

There’s a fair amount of travel today, so keep the rest of your plans simple and give yourselves time to appreciate where you are.

Settle into your room, enjoy an unhurried dinner, and take in the rare experience of spending the night beside a volcanic caldera.

Tomorrow, you’ll return to the coast and ease back into your beach vacation at a much slower pace—but tonight is a chance to experience something you’ll be talking about long after you’re home.

Volcano House: A Night on the Edge of Extraordinary

How often can you say you’ve spent the night at the rim of a volcano?

At Volcano House, inside Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, the sweeping Kīlauea caldera becomes the backdrop to an unforgettable stay.

Your Deluxe Crater View room with one king bed lets you enjoy this remarkable landscape from your own retreat. The historic lodge’s cozy atmosphere and cool mountain air offer a memorable change from your days beside the ocean. Linger over dinner at The Rim, then take time to appreciate the landscape as daylight fades.

If volcanic activity and visibility allow, you may even glimpse an eruption’s glow—an extraordinary bonus rather than a guaranteed sight. Staying overnight gives you time to savor the setting and explore nearby park sights the following morning.

Even one night here could become one of the stories you tell most from your Hawaiian adventure.

February 18:
Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and Transfer to Kona

One Last Volcano Adventure, Then Back to the Beach

Wake up to your remarkable crater view and enjoy a leisurely breakfast before saying goodbye to Volcano House.

Before leaving this remarkable side of the island, spend the morning discovering more of Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park.

Consider starting with Nāhuku, the Thurston Lava Tube, where a rainforest walk leads into a centuries-old passage once filled with flowing lava.

Then explore Devastation Trail, where the stark volcanic landscape reveals the power of past eruptions and the gradual return of plant life.

Pause at an open summit overlook to appreciate Kīlauea’s immense caldera before deciding how much farther you’d like to explore.

If time and energy allow, follow Chain of Craters Road through sweeping lava fields toward the coast, stopping at scenic viewpoints along the way.
Here, the Puʻuloa Petroglyphs offer a fascinating connection to Native Hawaiian history, with carvings preserved in hardened lava at a sacred cultural site. Reaching them requires an approximately 1.4-mile round-trip walk over uneven terrain, so allow extra time for this outing and stay on the marked trail and viewing boardwalk.

Choose your stops according to your interests, current park conditions and ranger advice, keeping enough time for the drive to Kona.

Once you’ve had your fill of volcanic wonders, head to OUTRIGGER Kona Resort & Spa, check in, and trade your walking shoes for a relaxed evening overlooking the Pacific.

(And if you arrive to the hotel in enough time, you could enjoy the Luau! See the Add-On Experiences for more information!)

OUTRIGGER Kona Resort & Spa: Ocean Views & Royal Roots

Perched above the lava-rock cliffs of Keauhou Bay, OUTRIGGER Kona Resort & Spa offers a spectacular setting to slow down and savor the Big Island.

Once a retreat for Hawaiian royalty, this historic bay is the birthplace of King Kamehameha III, whose birth site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Discover the stories behind your surroundings on the resort’s complimentary guided cultural tour, then deepen that connection through activities such as lei making, hula, and ukulele lessons.

Between adventures, enjoy the oceanfront grounds, linger over a meal, and watch the Pacific change colors as sunset approaches.
The resort’s manta viewing area offers the chance to look for graceful manta rays offshore after dark—an experience you can enjoy without getting in the water.

Its Keauhou location also makes a rewarding base for exploring Kona’s coffee farms, historic sites, and local dining with your rental car. Return each evening to ocean breezes and an unhurried atmosphere that makes doing very little feel like exactly the right plan. With royal history, Hawaiian traditions, and a dramatic coastline all around you, this stay gives you plenty of reasons to look forward to coming back to the hotel.

February 19:

Settling Into Island Time

By now, you’ve experienced so much of Hawaiʻi—today is a chance to slow down and enjoy simply being here.

Start with a leisurely breakfast and let the morning unfold over another cup of Kona coffee. Find a comfortable spot overlooking Keauhou Bay, catch up on your reading, or spend some time wandering the resort’s grounds.

For a little discovery close to your room, check the cultural activity schedule and consider joining a class or learning more about the area’s royal history.

Keep lunch unhurried and the afternoon open for whatever sounds good, even if that means a nap followed by a cold drink with an ocean view.

If you feel like venturing out, your rental car gives you the freedom to take a short outing and return whenever you’re ready.

As evening approaches, settle in to watch the changing colors over the Pacific before enjoying dinner together.

With another full day still ahead, there’s no need to rush—this is your time to enjoy the slower side of your Hawaiian vacation.

February 20:
Free Day

One Last Day, Your Way

Your last free day in Hawaiʻi is yours to savor, with no early alarms or packed schedule pulling you away from the moment.

Ease into the morning with a good cup of coffee, enjoy the resort’s ocean views, and give yourselves permission to do very little.
Find a comfortable lounge chair, open that book you’ve been meaning to read, or simply enjoy the ocean breeze and each other’s company.

You might also check the resort’s activity schedule for one more opportunity to connect with Hawaiian culture before heading home.

If you’re in the mood to wander, head into Kailua-Kona for a leisurely lunch and some last-minute shopping, picking up locally grown coffee or a special keepsake to bring home. Take your time browsing, stop for something sweet, and enjoy exploring without watching the clock.

Or choose an optional add-on experience for one more adventure before your Hawaiian getaway comes to a close.

Leave time to return to the resort, settle into your favorite spot, and watch the afternoon slip into evening.

As the sun sinks toward the Pacific, reminisce about your favorite moments—from Maui’s sunrise and ocean adventures to your extraordinary night beside the volcano.

End the day with a delicious dinner and a toast to the memories you’ve made together across two unforgettable islands.

What is the weather like in February?

February in Hawaii is typically warm and sunny, with daytime temperatures around 24–27°C (75–81°F) and mild evenings near 18–20°C (65–68°F). Brief trade wind showers are common, especially on windward coasts, but they usually pass quickly and leave plenty of sunshine behind. Ocean temperatures stay around 24°C (75°F), comfortable for swimming and snorkeling, though north-facing shores can see powerful winter surf. Overall, it feels pleasantly tropical, so pack light, breathable clothing, swimwear, and reef-safe sunscreen, plus a light jacket for breezy evenings or a sunrise visit to Haleakalā's chilly summit.

Do I need to use Reef-safe sunscreen in Hawaii?

Yes!

Using reef-safe sunscreen in Hawaii is not only recommended but essential for protecting the islands' delicate marine ecosystems. Conventional sunscreens often contain chemicals like oxybenzone and octinoxate, which have been shown to contribute to coral bleaching and harm marine life.

As a result, Hawaii has implemented laws that prohibit the sale of sunscreens containing these harmful ingredients. Opting for reef-safe sunscreen made from natural mineral compounds like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide allows you to enjoy the sun while also preserving the vibrant underwater habitats that make Hawaii so special. By choosing eco-friendly sunscreen, you're helping to ensure that Hawaii's stunning coral reefs and diverse marine species remain protected for future generations.

CAN I PAY BY ZELLE?

Yes!

We started taking Zelle payments last month and we found this to be a fast and FREE way to pay!
For those who don’t know what Zelle is… it is very much like a wire transfer (but it is not a wire transfer).

Everyone’s bank is different, though, so you may want to call/go in to your local bank and ask to have the maximum amount available to transfer every day.

Example: Some banks only allow $500/day transfer. Other banks will allow $1200/day.

Always be careful when making payments through Zelle to people that you do not know. There is no protection guarantee provided and you cannot reverse the fee.

The Pros for using Zelle:

  • It is FREE (no processing fees)!

  • It is instantaneous (funds will go directly to Zone Travel- so this is the absolute fastest way to make a payment)

The Cons for using Zelle:

  • Every bank is different when it comes to maximum amount available to be transferred every day. So, this may mean that you need to make multiple payments to Zone Travel, multiple days in a row.

  • It does require an app download onto your phone, and you need to set up your account with your bank information.

CAN I PAY BY CHECK?

Yes!

If you would like to avoid the 4% credit card processing fees, you may pay by check.
It is very important that you pay in advance of the deadlines and allow ample time for delivery.

Payments received after the deadline could result in cancelation of your reservation or increased fees.

There are two ways to pay by check:

  • Mail the check

  • Deposit directly at a local branch
